Things I believe

- AI changes what a data team is for. The job is building the layer AI works on, not writing the answers.
- For high-volume judgment work, AI is better than people. When a person makes the better call, the model was missing context. That’s an engineering gap, not an AI gap.
- The model is the easy part. The guardrails are the job.
- Code is cheap now. Judgment isn’t.
- Analysts should learn to write the code, then stop writing it and own the validation layer.
- A team’s knowledge shouldn’t belong to whoever has been around longest.
- Measure complexity and impact, not ticket counts.
- A team can recover from a wrong call. It struggles to recover from no call.
- A handoff you can’t write down isn’t a handoff.
- Give a team a year with these tools, and the ceiling is higher than most people think.
